It no longer your granddaddy's Cuba. Times have changed. Cuban exiles in South Florida have spawned a new generation of Americans who have little or no memory of the brutalities of the Castro regime and are wondering what all the fuss is about. Granted their grandparents are still vehemently opposed to dealing with the Castro brothers but this newest generation can't wait to hit the clubs at night...cuba libre in hand..and scuba dive the world-class coral reefs during the day.

"Did we just see a '57 Chevy?"

With the Obama administrations announcement on the loosening of the U.S. embargo with Cuba you have U.S. businesses mumbling and tossing in their sleep as they dream of the potential lucrative business environment just 90 miles off the coast of Florida. Topping the list of companies is the telecommunication industry (only 2% of the Cuban population have cell phones; 11% have land lines) followed closely by the travel industry (there are estimates as high as 3 million Americans ready to ride that first travel wave to the Island).

Ahem...don't forget to sign on to my mailing list.

The Los Angeles Times had a 2 page article describing an International Art Festival, the Cuban Biennale, that was held in Havana this past week. A New York art gallery owner, Alberto Magnan, exhibited 30 American artists at this years Art Festival. This was the first major exhibition of American artists in Cuba in 25 years and renewed hope among both Cubans and Americans attending the Festival that our countries would soon settle all differences and resume normal relations.
